Pre-Employment Transition Services: Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) in collaboration with non-profit organizations will provide or arrange for the provision of Pre-Employment Transition Services for students with disabilities.
Job Exploration Counseling
- Career Planning
- Review Labor Market Information
- Explore jobs/careers in the community
Work-Based Learning Experiences
- Facilitate job shadowing and/or mock interviews
- Connect students to career tech and/or other work-based learning programs
- Identify local businesses for work experience opportunities
Counseling for Post-Secondary Education
- Provide information on institutions of higher education including Disability Access offices
- Discuss accommodations for success in training and academic settings
- Educate and inform students about postsecondary training programs
Workplace Readiness Training
- Connect students with local career centers
- Identify social and independent living skills
- Identify and discuss employability skills
Self-Advocacy Training
- Counsel students and their families about empowerment through self determination
- Identify self-advocacy skills and why they are important
- Help students learn to effectively lead their IEP/504 or other individual planning meetings
